My name is Robert "Brobie" Davie. Most of my friends and family know me as Brobie which is a variation of my middle name.
I was born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah. I have lived in Salt Lake, Denver, Murrieta California, Temecula California, San Diego California and Vacaville California and I have spent the past 28 years in Hesperia, California.
I attended High school in Salt Lake City and also attended Utah Technical College at Salt Lake which has since become Salt Lake Community College.
I worked for others in the Appliance technical field and then I was fortunate to have my own appliance company for eight years when my career opportunity presented itself with the Maytag Corporation and then Whirlpool Corporation which is the largest manufacturer in the world of home appliances.
I was a factory rep, district manager and most recently before I retired a Manager of Business and Employee Development.
I have always had an interest in politics. I used to tell my co-workers 25 years ago that I was going to be Mayor of Hesperia not realizing at the time that we don't elect a mayor directly. I didn't run for election while I was working for Whirlpool as my job took me allover the United States three out of four weeks minimum. I learned a lot seeing different cultures and various States.
I have been attending city council meetings regularly and became involved in speaking and discussing the issues that concern us as residents around four years ago which I feel has been a very good learning experience as I have gotten to know a lot of the city staff and the inner workings of how the city operates.
I am retired so I have the time and energy to give to our residents of Hesperia to help make this a better place to live and a city we can all be proud of.
My proudest moment while being involved with the city council to date was our successful defeat of the four pallet yards that were slated to open in Hesperia. Along with the help of many dedicated residents we were able to keep these pallet yards from becoming a reality.
I have been discussing the issues with as many residents as possible the past year as I prepared to run for city council in 2026.
I am running to be the peoples candidate and not just vote with the status quo but listen and form an opinion based on the facts, the residents wishes and not just vote what I think is right with no regard for those who voted for me.
Major concerns include::
Roads
Roads as we all know are in very poor condition and our recent flood of 12/24/25 has exposed our inadequate infrastructure which also includes flood control.
Public Safety
Public safety which includes more police and first responders so that our police can be proactive rather than reactive.
Our police to resident ratio is inadequate and less than our surrounding neighbor cities.
We need to be able to sleep at night not having to worry about if our cars will be stolen from our driveways, our mail and packages stolen constantly and our streets are so unsafe due to many years of traffic laws not being enforced. We talk a lot about red light runners but there are far too many and its causing far too many injuries and fatalities. You know its bad when you even see a VVTA bus run a red light several seconds after it turned red as I witnessed yesterday 1/14/26
Transparency of City Government
We need more transparency of our city government. We need a dashboard of how each city council member votes. The majority of city council votes at each meeting are 5-0. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are approved with seldom a dissenting vote. I was told by the city managers office that if I want a record of how each council member has voted I'd have to go back and watch every council meeting video. That's not a realistic approach to what should be public record.
Business
I am pro business as a former business owner but how many car washes and coffee shops does one city need?
We need to take a long hard look at what businesses are approved and what ones are in the best interest of the city. We need tax revenue from business and the goods and services that they provide. Im concerned that there is too much of an open door policy. Some businesses are coming to our area because they are no longer welcome down the hill or it has become too expensive for them to exist down there.
We need to do anything we can to speed the process for Sam's club to start building as soon as possible. Sam's will be a huge revenue generator for our city.
Most residents don't realize that gasoline sales is one of the largest tax generators for our city. If you gas up at Costco or Maverick it only benefits Victorville not us.
We need to be proactively attracting such business as Whole foods, Trader Joes, Sprouts and the likes.
In Summary:
This is just a partial list of concerns but the ones I hear the most about as I talk to our residents.
I try and attend the majority of our meetings held by the city. These include city council meetings twice a month, The DRC meetings which is the Development Review Committee held at city hall, Planning Commission meetings and the City Council Advisory board meetings.
I also try and attend as many community events such as the Farmers market held on Saturdays, the Hesperia days parade and rodeo, the inter generational dinners held at the Percy Baker center.
